~Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose
Our national philanthropy is the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation.
Locally the sisters of the Gamma Psi chapter are involved in many activities for non- profit organizations. We were proud to be awarded the Outstanding Service Award at the University of North Alabama 2000 Greek Awards Banquet.
Here are some of the organizations we are involved with:
Celebrate 2000 : Building Diebert Park
Diebert Park is a new area of land donated to the city of Florence for use as a park. The sisters of Gamma Psi were proud be selected to work with the brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha to raise money and work on this park!
Boy's and Girl's Clubs of the Shoals
The sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta are always willing to help with the Boy's and Girl's Clubs. At least once a semester the sisters visit the clubs and spend time with the children there. Many sisters develop special bonds with one or more of the children. At the end of every semester the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta hold a party for the children at the clubs.
Big Brothers/ Big Sisters
Each semester the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta sponsor a skating party for the children and mentors involved in the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters program. The sisters enjoy getting to know the children and look forward to seeing them every semester.
Hospice
On Sunday nights, the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta can often be found making seasonal baskets for the patients served by the local Hospice. Although the baskets only contain little things, the sisters hope that they bring lots of cheer to those with terminal illnesses.
Festival of Trees
Each year the University of North Alabama sponsors a Christmas event called the Festival of Trees. Area businesses and alumnae donate trees and wreaths fully decorated to be auctioned off. For more than two weeks the public is allowed to tour Colby Hall and view the trees. They can also visit the tea room located on the bottom floor of Colby Hall. For many years the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta have been proud to assist the University of North Alabama during the Festival of Trees to help raise money for UNA scholarships.
