Book:

 

Basic Form: 

Author’s name. (Publication date). Title of the book. Place of publication: Publisher.

Example:

Fromkin, D. (1999). The way of the world: From the dawn of civilizations to the eve of the twenty-first century. New York: Knopf.

Journal Article:

 

Basic Form: 

Author’s name. (Publication date). Title of the article. Journal title, vol. no., page range.

Example:

 

Kooy, M. J. (1999). Romanticism and Coleridge’s idea of history. Journal of the History of Ideas, 60, 717-735.

Full-text article from an online database such as Infotrac Expanded Academic ASAP:

 

Basic Form: 

Author name. (Publication date). Title of the article. Journal title, vol. no., page range. Date of access, Title of the database.

Example:

Poovey, M. (2001). The model system of contemporary literary criticism. Critical Inquiry, 27, 408+. Retrieved December 11, 2001, from Infotrac Expanded Academic ASAP database.

Document on a web site:

 

Basic form: 

Author/Creator’s name. (Publication date). Title of the document. Date of access, electronic address (URL) 

Example: 

Girsberger, R. (1999). Percussion research pages. Retrieved December 11, 2001, from http://members.aol.com/russg1776

Government document:

 

Basic form: 

Agency name. (Publication Date). Title of the document. (Publication no., if available). Place of publication: Publisher.

Example: 

Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs. (1992). National action plan for global climate change. (DS Publication No. 10026). Washington, DC: U.S. Government Printing Office.

ERIC document:

 

Basic form:

Author’s name. (Publication date). Title of the document. (Report no.). Place of publication: Publisher. (ERIC no.)

Example: 

Paris, A. H., & Paris, S. G. (2001). Children’s comprehension of narrative picture books. (Report No. CIERA-3-012). Ann Arbor, MI: Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement. (ERIC Document Reproduction Service No. ED452515)
