UNIVERSITY OF NORTH ALABAMA THETA CHAPTER OF ALPHA KAPPA DELTA |

|
In 1982, the Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, an international sociology honor society, was formed on the University of North Alabama. From its beginnings at University of North Alabama, AKD has strived to provide students an academic forum where they can meet and interact with other students and faculty interested in sociology.
LATEST NEWS: In May 2007, the Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta and the University of North Alabama’s Sociology club sponsored a cultural tour of the Shoals area for members and family. We had a tour guide from the Muscle Shoals area who talked about the various places we toured. We began with historic downtown Florence which included a drive by Pope’s Tavern, W.C. Handy Birthplace, Indian Mound, and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Rosenbaum Home. We then walked around Tuscumbia's Spring Park, enjoyed a driving tour included Colbert County Courthouse, Tuscumbia Railroad Depot, early commercial buildings, and historic churches and homes. Later, we toured Ivy Green, the birthplace of Helen Keller, were we saw many beautiful and interesting items. Afterwards, we rode to “Freedom Hills” of rural Colbert County, an area of anti-secessionist activity in the Civil War, to visit Coondog Cemetery, a unique tribute to “man’s best friend”. Finally, we toured the Alabama Music Hall of Fame to discover Alabama’s unique music heritage, and especially the history of “Muscle Shoals Music”.
