JACKSON, Tenn.,
– After leading by only a single point at the half, the University of North Alabama women’s basketball team outscored Lane College 35-23 over the final 20 minutes to secure a 66-53 road victory Thursday evening. The 13-point win evens the team’s record at 2-2 on the year and sets up a home showdown against second-ranked Delta State on Saturday.

Against Lane, the Lions trailed most of the second half before a late spurt gave them the lead. The Dragons opened the game on an 8-0 run and held the lead until a three-pointer by Chelsey Malone gave UNA its first lead at 29-28 with 1:09 remaining.

The teams traded baskets to close out the half, including a lay-up at the buzzer by Amber Rutherford to put the Lions on to 31-30 at intermission.

Lane scored first in the opening minute of the second half, but a 12-2 run gave UNA a lead it would never relinquish.

Rutherford finished with a game-high 25 points to lead the Lions. Tandra Inmon added 13 points for the Lions while Malone also reached double figures with 10 on the night. Brittany Godsey also recorded a season-high seven assists.

UNA will take its 2-2 record back home to host the undefeated and second-ranked Lady Statesmen. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
