AMERICUS, Ga., – A
second-half rally came up just short for the University of North
Alabama women’s basketball team Monday afternoon during a 60-52 road
loss at Georgia Southwestern. Amber Rutherford scored a game-high 20
points and pulled down 11 rebounds in a losing effort as the Lions
fell to 1-2 on the season.
After trailing by 10 at the break, UNA was able to cut the deficit
to a single point on three different occasions in the final six
minutes of play. The Hurricanes, however, had an answer each time,
including a three-pointer from Nadirah Gardner with 3:19 remaining
to take a 50-46 lead.
After two free throws by Jameica York, GSW got another three-point
shot to go ahead 53-48 and the Lions would get no closer the rest of
the way. York added 16 points and seven assists, but no other UNA
player had more than six points in the game.
As a team, the Lions hit just 3-of-17 three-point attempts and
overall shot just 28.6 percent from the floor.

showing in the first half. The Hurricanes led
33-23 at the break.
