VALDOSTA, Ga. -- It
took more than six minutes for the University of North Alabama
women's basketball team to get on the scoreboard but the Lions then
rolled to a 90-24 rout of Puerto Rico-Cayey for their first win of
the season.
UNA, 1-1
overall, trailed 3-0 until Dana Jackson hit a three-pointer to tie
the game at the 13:52 mark of the first half. The Lions then rolled
to a 37-11 halftime lead. In the second half UNA cleared the bench
and all 12 players got in on the scoring as the Lions out-scored
Puerto Rico-Cayey 53-13 over the final 20 minutes.
Jackson and
Lacy Lewis led UNA with 13 points each. Jennifer Williams added 12
and Sequoyah Cliff 10. North Alabama held a commanding 59-21
rebounding advantage and forced 28 turnovers.
North Alabama
will play at Georgia Southwestern on Monday at 4 p.m. Central.
The Lions open
their home season on Saturday against Wesley at 6 p.m. at Flowers
Hall.
