FLORENCE -- The
University of North Alabama women's basketball team will tipoff its
2008-09 season on the road this Saturday and Sunday at the Valdosta
State Tip-Off Classic in Valdosta, Ga.
With seven lettermen and two starters back from last season, the
Lions will face two tough challenges in the season-opening event.
UNA opens play against 2007-08 NCAA regional participant Tampa
before facing Puerto Rico-Cayay the following day. Tipoff on
Saturday is set for 1 p.m. Central, and the Nov. 16 contest with
Puerto Rico-Cayay begins at noon.
UNA was 13-15 last season but had a solid fourth place finish in the
Gulf South Conference East Division. The Lions return All-Gulf South
Conference performer Amber Rutherford who averaged 15.2 points and
6.7 rebounds per game, along with guard Jameica York who averaged
7.6 points and 3.0 rebounds.
North Alabama will also play at Georgia Southwestern on Monday,
November 17 at 4 p.m. in Americaus, Ga.
The Lions will open their home schedule on November 22. |
