WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RELEASES 2008-09
SCHEDULE
FLORENCE
– University of North Alabama head women’s basketball coach
Terry Fowler has announced the release of the Lions’ 2008-09
schedule, featuring 15 home contests on the year.
“We’re
thrilled to have 15 contest at home for our fans to continue to
come out and support us,” said Fowler. “Flowers Hall has been
very friendly to us during the past two seasons.”
UNA, coming off a second
consecutive trip to the Gulf South Conference Tournament last
season, will welcome nine different non-conference opponents to
Flowers Hall before opening its annual GSC home-and-home slate.
The Lions will open the season with
a pair of games on Nov. 15 and 16 at the Valdosta State Tip-Off
Classic. UNA opens play against 2007-08 NCAA regional
participant Tampa before facing Puerto Rico-Cayay the following
day.
Overall, the Lions
will face four teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last
season, including GSC East foes West Georgia and Valdosta State
and GSC West standout Arkansas Tech.
“This
coming season will present us with some great challenges and
opportunities as we face four opponents who participated in NCAA
postseason play last year and several others who just missed
postseason play,” Fowler added. “I’m confident that the
non-conference schedule will prepare our young team for the
rigors of the GSC.”
UNA’s home opener
will be Saturday, Nov. 22, against Wesley.
