About the College of Business

Through its departments the College of Business offers both the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree and the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. These degree programs include undergraduate majors and graduate concentrations in several areas; minor programs; three- and four-year pre-professional curriculum for the study of law; coursework applicable to general studies components in all university degree programs; curricula for the preparation of secondary teachers of secretarial and business subjects in degree programs offered through the College of Education; coursework contributory to special industrial training programs; and courses suitable for general electives or for personal and vocational interests. The College of Business is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), and also cooperates with and participates in academically-related programs as may be conducted by external groups such as American College of Life Underwriters, the American Institute of Banking, the Association of Certified Professional Secretaries, and others.

The programs, courses, and functions of the College of Business are designed to serve students who wish to prepare for positions in the business, commercial, financial, and industrial fields; and in governmental agencies at the national, state, and local levels; for graduate study leading to professional positions in these areas and in teaching and research; for preparation for admission to professional schools of law; and for the development of knowledge, skills, and understanding for application in the business world and in society at large. The major program in accounting also includes coursework appropriate to the criteria and examinations leading to qualification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). Please note that anyone wishing to sit for the CPA Examination in Alabama must have completed at least 150 semester hours including a bachelor's degree, the "MBA with an Accounting Concentration", offered through our graduate program will satisfy those requirements.

In its curricula, the College of Business provides special opportunities for credit through supervised field experiences. A number of courses are also offered regularly in the evening hours for the particular convenience of employed persons in the area.
