Dr. Linda Armstrong
Associate Professor of Education and Chairperson

Dr. Armstrong joined the Elementary Education faculty in 2005. She has her PhD. degree in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa. She has her undergraduate degree from Baker University and her Masters degree from Emporia State University. In addition to her administrative duties, her primary teaching duties are in reading and language arts.

 Lisa H. Clayton, Ed.D.,     Assistant Professor of Elementary Education

Dr. Clayton joined the Elementary Education faculty in 2007. She has a B.S. and M.A. degree from the University of North Alabama and an Ed.S. and Ed.D. from Samford University. Her major teaching duties are in the teaching of reading and child development.

 

Katie Cole Kinney, Ph.D.,
Assistant Professor of Elementary Education

Dr. Kinney joined the Elementary Education faculty in 2007. She has a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership with an emphasis in Instructional
Technology from The University of Alabama, an M.A. in Elementary Education from The University of Alabama, and a B.S in Elementary Education from Athens State College. Her major teaching duties are in
instructional technology.

Ann Dillon, Ed.D.,
Associate Professor of Special Education

Dr. Dillon joined the Elementary Education faculty in 2003. She has her B.S., M.A. and Ed.D. degrees from the University of Alabama. Her major teaching duties are in collaborative special education.

Ruth T. Dumas, Ph.D., Professor of Early Childhood Education

Dr. Dumas joined the Early Childhood Education faculty in 1996. She has a Ph.D. degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, an M.A.Ed. degree from Western Carolina University, and a B.A. degree from Winthrop College. Her major teaching duties are in creative arts and math methods.

Pamela J. Fernstrom, Ph.D., Professor of Special Education

    Dr. Fernstrom joined the Special Education faculty in 1991. She has Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from George Peabody College for Teachers of Vanderbilt University and a B.A.E. degree from the University of Mississippi.
    Her major teaching duties are in special education and assessment.

Barbra Goodnite, Ed.D., Associate Professor of Elementary Education

Dr. Goodnite joined the Elementary Education faculty in 1993. She has Ed.D., M.S. and B.S. degrees from Mississippi State University. Her major teaching duties are in social studies, reading, and creative arts.

Victoria Hulsey, Ed.D., Associate Professor of Special Education

Dr. Hulsey joined the Elementary Education faculty in 2008. She has her B.S., M.A., and Ed.D. in special education from the University of Alabama. Her major teaching duties are in collaborative special education and classroom management.

Janice G. Myhan, Ed.D., Professor of Elementary Education

Dr. Myhan joined the Elementary Education faculty in 1990. She has an Ed.D. degree from Mississippi State University and M.A. and B.S. degrees from the University of North Alabama. Her major teaching duties are in social studies and parent relations.

Gregory P. Risner, Ed.D., Professor of Education

Dr. Risner joined the Elementary Education faculty in 1988. He has an Ed.D. degree from George Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University, An Ed.S. degree from the University of North Alabama, an M.S. degree from Samford University, and a B.S. degree from the University of North Alabama. His major teaching duties are in the teaching of reading.

Robert D. Young, Ed.D., Professor of Early Childhood Education

Dr. Young joined the Early Childhood Education faculty in 1988. He has an Ed.D. degree from George Peabody College for Teachers of Vanderbilt University, an M.A. degree from Texas Wesleyan College, and a B.S. degree from Texas Christian University. His major teaching duties are in reading and language arts and behavior of the young child.
