Human Environmental Sciences

Men and women graduates of Human Environmental Sciences are involved in current issues affecting individuals, families, and society. Major emphases within the profession are determined by the needs of individuals and families in the physical and social environments of our time. The ultimate goal of Human Environmental Sciences is to help individuals and families maintain a meaningful quality of life in the midst of rapid social, economic, and technological changes. The Human Environmental Sciences profession continues to be unique among the other professions in that the central focus is on the family, and it is primarily concerned with strengthening family life.

The Department of Human Environmental Sciences is a professional program which prepares graduates to assume a variety of professional careers. These include:
 

          Fashion merchandiser and buyer for department stores
         
Interior design consultant
         
Sales representative for clothing and textile manufacturers
         
Manager for retail businesses
         
Fashion and costume designer
         
Manager for restaurants, hotels, and motels
         
Family and Consumer Sciences teacher in grades 6-12
