TOURISM ALONG THE
TENNESSEE RIVER

Water Recreation is one of the fastest growing sectors of the tourism industry! The Tennessee River and the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway are part of the safest and most picturesque bodies of water in the southeast United States.

Water Recreational Facilities add to the quality of life of a community while contributing millions of dollars to the economy annually. These facilities create aesthetically pleasing additions to the cities which aid in attracting new businesses and new workers from other parts of the state or country.

The Tennessee-Tombigbee's $50 million water recreational facilities were designed to complement the region's other tourism interests. Tennessee-Tombigbee recreational activities generate nearly $170 million annually. This economic impact has bebefited the new, smaller businesses and services in towns along the waterway. Huntsville, Alabama, for example, accesses the Tennessee River through Ditto Landing, a multi-use recreational facility. Guntersville, Alabama, located on Lake Guntersville, is a popular site for fishing enthuiasts.
