Some Birds of the Tennessee Valley  

Great Blue Heron :  Andea heradias, is often mistaken for a Crane. It may stand 4 feet tall with feathers of blue gray and a white head.  Canada Goose : Branta canadensis, Is pale breasted with a white chin strap that runs around the side of the head. THe geese travel in flocks shaped in a V formation, always honking of barking. Mallard duck : Anas platyrhynchos, Is found in mostly wooded swamps, rivers, and ponds.  The male has a glossy green head and a white neck ring. The female is mottled brown.
Turkey Vulture : Cathartes aura, Is nearly eagle sized without all the gracefulness.  This bird lacks the beauty that is seen in most birds.  You can pick out this bird from the V shape in the sky.  Red-tailed Hawk : Buteo jamaicensis, Has a slightly rounded tail with a hint of red on it. Bald Eagle : Haliaeetus leucocephalus, This is the national bird, it has a white tail and head.  This bird has been reintroduced in the Tennessee Valley and seems to be doing good.  It can be seen in the winter time in Land Between the Lakes and also in the little town of Waterloo, Al. 
Wild Turkey : Meleagris gallopavo, Looks somewhat like a barnyard turkey.  It can be seen in the Lauderdale management area and is hunted during some parts of the year. Eastern Bluebird : Sialia sialis, a little larger then a sparrow with a rusty red breast.  It likes open country and scattered trees. Northern Cardinal : Cardinalis cardinalis, The male has all red feathers with a crest on its head and black around the bill.  The female is a brownish color with a touch of red on the wings and tail
Carolina Wren : Thryothorus ludovicianus, warm reddish brown above and buff below.  It has a white eyebrow stripe.
