Regional Geomorphology

GE 435/GE 535

(available for graduate credit)

a class like no other!

Spend the intersession on the road exploring landforms and processes in North America..

Overview:

The best way to learn is to experience.  By far, the best way to learn about landforms and the processes that shape the landscape is to observe them first hand.  It is easier to understand the processes of mountain building / weathering and erosion while standing in a mountain stream.

This intersession class is an intense learning experience, we spend two weeks on the road, living on the landscape, exploring the landforms from the continental scale to the level of an individual stream meander.

The prerequisite is either ES 121 or GE 112. (with GE 224, Geographic Field Methods recommended as a useful addition to your preparation.) Additional costs to be on the road are shared by all students, the costs for travel are in addition to normal UNA tuition.  The instructor makes every effort to keep the costs as low as possible, but renting vans, fuel, camping accommodations, entry fees etc. have costs that must be carried by the class. Each session has a cost depending on the miles driven and the types of visits we make, the cost for 2007 will be no more than $529...

The 2007 dates will be 14 May - 28 May
