Mr. Eddie Elsey
Mr. Eddie Elsey was born in Zachary, LA. He received the Bachelor of Music Education in 1999 from Northwestern State University (Louisiana) and the Master of Music in trombone performance from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2001. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trombone performance and pedagogy from the University of Southern Mississippi. His principal teachers have been or are Dr. William Mathis and Dr. Marta Hofacre. Additional instruction has come from David Vining of the Cincinnati Conservatory; Ron Wilkins, jazz trombone recording artist; K. Thomas Brantley of the University of South Florida, and Larry Campbell of Louisiana State University.
Mr. Elsey recently won the “Brass Division” and the “Silver Medal Award” in the 1st annual Corinth Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Compettion. He was also a part of the jazz trombone sextet, “HubBones”, that was the 2002 Eastern Trombone Workshop winner of the National Jazz Ensemble Competition. He has also been a featured soloist with the Corinth Symphony Orchestra, the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra and the University of Southern Mississippi Wind Ensemble. Performance experiences also include the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, the Meridian Symphony Orchestra, the Longview (TX) Symphony Orchestra, as well as various big bands, pit orchestras, chamber groups, and jazz combos.
Mr. Elsey is a member of the International Trombone Association, the College Music Society, the Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity of America.
