Q: What are the advantages of attending the SOAR program?
A: First, you can avoid August registration by scheduling your classes early. Second, you will learn all about UNA in an informal, fun way. Third, you will meet other students, faculty and staff in small groups.
Q: Will I have to pay my tuition and fees when I schedule my classes?
A: No, your class schedule will be given to you at the time of registration. Your bill will be mailed to you after your SOAR session with instructions as to the deadline and procedures for payment. Failure to pay the bill by the deadline will result in cancellation of your class registration. That would mean you would have to go through the registration process again in August.
Q: Should my family come to SOAR?
A:
Freshmen Orientation: Yes, if possible. Members of your family will have many questions that can be answered through the Family Orientation Program. It is important that they have a good understanding of UNA programs and services in order to support you in your educational pursuits. Family members should fill out Section II of the registration form and include fees in the total.
Transfer
Orientation: We do not recommend that parents
attend the Transfer Orientation program as this is an
important time for new transfer students to meet other
students with similar experiences, and also because there is
no specific programming intended for parents. If
parents wish to attend, they may sign up for one of the
Family Orientation dates that have been set for the Freshman
Orientation.
Q: Do I have to stay
the entire time?
A: Yes. The
overnight orientation
session for the freshmen students
will begin with check-in at 2 p.m. on
Day 1 and end at 5:00 p.m. on Day 2. Students
have to stay in the residence halls. Housing is
provided for students only. Family members may
utilize the hotels in the area. The one
day orientation session for transfer students lasts from
9:30 AM until approximately
5:00 PM.
Q: Will
parents be with their son/daughter during freshman advising
and registration?
A:
No. Part of the students experience
is to learn how to be advised and registered on their own so
they will know how to do it when they continue on at UNA.
The faculty will be assisting the students during advising
and the SOAR counselors will assist them with their
registration process.
Q: Will
parents be with their son/daughter during
the entire freshman orientation
process?
A:
No. Parents and students will be
checking in at the same time and place; however, the parents
will follow a different itinerary than the students.
Parents will meet up with their students at Orientation
Express which is at the end of day 2 of the freshman
orientation session.
