History of PBL
The Beta Alpha Phi Chapter, number 6662 of Phi Beta Lambda, at the University of North Alabama was chartered on November 26, 1974. Ms. Ellen Moore, from the area of Office Administration, served as the first faculty advisor. Ms. Moore originally recruited fifteen students from both business and business education. Mrs. Donna Yancey began advising the chapter in 1978. At that time, there were 6 members. The chapter was the largest chapter in the state in 2000 with 87 members. Mrs. Natasha Lindsey and Dr. Joan Parris are co-advisors with Mrs. Yancey.
Beta Alpha Phi has been recognized as Chapter of the Year for ten years. Beta Alpha Phi went to state competition for the first time in 1980 and has competed each year since. The Beta Alpha Phi Chapter competed nationally for the past sixteen years consecutively. There have been forty-one national competitive winners over the past sixteen years. UNA's chapter has also won the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit for the past ten years. Mrs. Yancey was recognized at the National Conference in July 2002 with 25 years of service to PBL. She was also added to the "Advisor Wall of Fame" in 2003. Phi Beta Lambda competed at the state level for the first time in 1980 and has competed every year since then.
