Dr. David K. Ruebhausen, Associate Professor B.A., William Jewell College, Kansas City; M.A., University of Minnesota, Minneapolis; Ph.D., University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Dr. Ruebhausen began his theatrical career in the Kansas City area working as the Student Technical Director for William Jewell College Theatre and acting in such productions as Marat/Sade, The Importance of Being Earnest, Romeo and Juliet, and The Insect Comedy. While there, he also performed walk-on rolls with visiting groups such as the Acting Company and the Houston Ballet, working with such directors as Robert Brustein (American Rep) and Tomas MacAnna (Abbey Theatre). While completing graduate work in Minneapolis, Dr. Ruebhausen served as Theatre Instructor and as the Managing Director for the University of Minnesota Theatre and Minnesota Centennial Showboat. While in the Twin Cities, he directed and/or designed for such productions as Children of a Lesser God, The Bourgeois Gentleman, Ghosts, Arms and The Man and Beyond Therapy. Currently, Dr. Ruebhausen serves as the senior faculty member and contact person for UNA Theatre, teaching courses in design, directing, history, dramatic theory and literature, and arts management. Most recently at UNA, Dr. Ruebhausen has directed and/or designed such productions as The Man of La Mancha, Dracula, Noises Off, The Tempest, Guys and Dolls, Playboy of the Western World, Lysistrata, Candida, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Once Upon a Mattress, The Rocky Horror Show, The Shadow Box, R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robot), The Little Prince, The Mousetrap, The Glass Menagerie, Tartuffe, and Oedipus/Antigone for which he received an Excellence in Design award from the Kennedy Center's American College Theatre Festival. He has also designed Shoals community theatre shows such as: Fame & Assassins and is the scenic designer for The Miracle Worker produced at the Ivy Green Amphitheatre at the Helen Keller Birthplace. When not teaching or producing theatre, Dr. Ruebhausen adjudicates performances and pursues his research in theatrical accessibility for artists and audiences with disabilities. His professional memberships include the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, United States Institute for Theatre Technology, Phi Epsilon Society, National Mortar Board and Alpha Psi Omega.
