UNA ARMY ROTC TO HOLD COMMISSIONING CEREMONY OF THREE STUDENTS MAY 9

FLORENCE, Ala. — The University of North Alabama Army ROTC will hold its spring 2008 commissioning ceremony at 10 a.m. May 9 at the Memorial Amphitheater on campus. In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved to the Wesleyan Hall Auditorium.
Three UNA students are being commissioned as U.S. Army second lieutenants and will report to their duty stations in the coming weeks.
Matthew Robert Gowens, of Henderson, Tenn., will report to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Gowens is married to Rebecca Gowens, and the couple has one daughter, Loralai. He will serve in the branch of active duty military police.
Max Russ Sanders Jr., of Moulton, will report to Fort Benning, Ga. He will serve in the branch of field artillery.
Evan Taylor Whiteside, of Athens, will join the 1-167th Infantry A Company in Valley. Whiteside is engaged to Jessica Marianne Grady, and the couple will marry on May 24.
The students are each criminal justice majors with minors in military science.
A reception will follow the ceremony in the Wesleyan Hall Annex.
